About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled scientist to join Inari Agriculture in our research site in Cambridge.  As a Senior Translational Scientist, you will join teams that are currently designing, developing, and applying innovative tools for genome engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a small team in experimental planning and execution focused on developing knowledge and applications for Inari's proprietary genome engineering tools in the pharmaceutical industry.  As a member of our highly collaborative and multidisciplinary science organization, you will have the opportunity to contribute and develop your own ideas to address the most important challenges in modern agriculture and beyond.

As a Senior Translational Scientist you will:

  • Use your knowledge of genetic engineering and tool development from the pharmaceutical and/or contract research R&D to lead Inari’s efforts to expand the application of genetic engineering tools developed internally 
  • Contribute to development of new innovative tools by working closely with scientists in other disciplines, including protein engineers and computational scientists
  • Design and troubleshoot experiments, interpret data, draw conclusions, and communicate results to different stakeholders audiences 
  • Collaborate with and manage the work of scientists and research associates to design, execute, and coordinate lab experiments (e.g in vitro and in eukaryotic cell models)
  • Participate in discussions with the science and business development teams to provide technical expertise and help identify business opportunities for the company 
  • Serve as the main point of contact between project leads and external collaborators/providers to test our technologies in mammalian cells
  • Coordinate and collaborate with counterparts working on agriculture applications to ensure translation of learning and knowledge across systems
  • Document and present findings through clearly written reports and effective oral presentations

You bring:

  • PhD or Masters degree (with equivalent experience of a PhD) and 6-10 years experience pharmaceutical or contract research R&D setting in protein biochemistry, genetics, synthetic biology, or a related field
  • Track record in  experimental design, execution, and analysis of experiments in mammalian cell culture using genetic engineering techniques such as CRISPR-Cas, TALENs, Cre-lox, homologous recombination, etc.
  • Knowledge or experience developing genetic engineering tools and applying them toward therapeutic applications
  • Strong project management skills, including time management and organizational abilities to ensure efficiency in planning and execution 
  • Ability and desire to manage and mentor scientist colleagues
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Interest in combining existing knowledge in a novel business development context
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning
  • Creative and strategic thinking, good problem solving skills, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failures
