About the role….

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and proactive Scientist to join our fast-growing team at Inari Ghent, who is committed and passionate about developing 21st century solutions to address global food challenges. As a Scientist, you will be involved in our trait discovery activities, ranging from the design of editing strategies to molecular and phenotypic characterization of edited plants.

In this position, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, hands-on executing, and coordinating tasks with a focus on maize. The right candidate enjoys a “start-up” atmosphere and is flexible, shows good judgment, takes initiative and is willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team.

As a Scientist, you will …

  • Lead the design, implementation, execution and coordination of scientific tasks and activities
  • Coordinate lab experiments performed by yourself and research assistants, some of which may include: gRNA design, vector design and construction, diverse molecular analyses (i.e., PCR-based genotyping, DNA sequencing analysis, qPCR and Western blot analysis), working out crossing schemes, phenotyping
  • Collaborate with Research Assistants and other Scientists to execute scientific experiments within one or more projects
  • Interpret/analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on the results
  • Communicate results in well-written and clear oral presentations
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of your work, project data you generate and other information as needed
  • Work with colleagues to troubleshoot and develop effective solutions when problems occur
  • Participate in scientific discussions and present research outcomes to peers and management

You bring...

  • PhD in Plant Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Physiology or related field or Master in aforementioned fields with 5 years of experience
  • Proven knowledge of and experience with molecular biology and genetics; experience with gene editing is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of plant biology and phenotyping
  • Basic knowledge of statistics for data analysis
  • Strong coordination skills, with ability to coordinate among different teams
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership to independently design, implement, and drive successful scientific project outcomes 
  • Strong record of independent research supported by peer-reviewed publications and/or patent applications and patents
  • Ability to thrive and deliver progress toward multiple goals in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse environment
  • Pro-active, highly-motivated and strong team player in planning but with a high degree of independence in execution
  • Demonstrated innovative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and be a team player
  • A proactive attitude, and willingness to be bold and take risks
  • An efficient and well organized approach to deliver high quality results on time with integrity
  • A collaborative mindset, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives and feedback
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • A valid driver license
