About the role…

We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative Research Associate with extensive hands-on experience in biochemistry and molecular biology to join our fast-growing team at Inari. This is a lab-based position, located at our HQ in Cambridge, MA, where you will join a multidisciplinary Science and Technology Platform. Primarily you will support the expression, purification, and characterization of proteins and the development of new functional assays. Strong collaborative, organizational, and time management skills are a must for this role. 

As a Research Associate, you will...

  • Isolate proteins from unconventional or challenging tissues and develop Western blot assays to identify and quantify proteins
  • Characterize protein affinity, stability and function in vitro and in cell-free systems
  • Scale up biophysical assays using laboratory automation
  • Express and purify proteins on small and large scale
  • Maintain and test new lab equipment, inventory of downstream reagents, and consumables
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of your work, analyze and archive experimental data professionally and promptly
  • Participate in experimental design, analysis, interpretation and troubleshooting of experimental data
  • Communicate results to stakeholders in written technical reports and oral presentations 

You bring...

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of experience or Master’s degree with at least 2 years of lab experience in a relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, etc.)
  • Proficiency in common protein laboratory techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, protein concentration, quantification, and storage
  • Proficiency in executing, analyzing and troubleshooting Western blots
  • Hands-on experience in affinity purification (Ni-NTA, ion exchange, size exclusion) and instrumentation (AKTA/FPLC)
  • Excellent time management and organization, professional integrity, adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment

Bonus qualifications...

  • Experience with gene editing and CRISPR-Cas technologies
  • Experience with laboratory automation (Biomek, Hamilton, Integra)
  • Experience with cell-free protein expression systems
  • Familiarity with Geneious, Benchling, and similar software tools for plasmid design and construction
  • General knowledge of plant physiology and molecular biology, and agricultural biotechnology
